100 years ago in Spokane: Dentist confronts gas thief as shortage riles city

Spokane’s gasoline shortage was becoming critical, and it resulted in an action-packed early morning confrontation on a Spokane street.

A Spokane dentist foiled a gasoline thief in “an encounter that would put the ordinary movie thriller to shame,” proclaimed the Spokane Daily Chronicle.

Dr. Charles D. McBean said he was called out for an emergency visit to a patient at an apartment house on Howard Street and Sinto Avenue.

He left his auto in front of the place. After treating the patient, he exited and heard “the rattle of a tin can” and saw a shadowy figure run away from his car toward a neighboring car.

Dr. McBean raced toward the man, who was trying to get a way with a can of gasoline. The dentist and the thief grappled for a while until the thief got the upper hand and knocked the dentist down.

The thief then jumped into

Going to the Dentist During Covid-19: 10 Hygienist Tips

Dentists and Covid-19

Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Dental Association have asked dentists to forego routine and elective procedures in favor of emergency situations. This helped minimize the risk of infection to patients and staff and reduced the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE); dentists do, after all, have to get up close and personal to do their job.

Now, along with other establishments, some dental offices may be opening up for more routine procedures—the cavity that needs filling, or the cleaning you’ve been putting off. With contact comes the risk of Covid-19. “There are always risks because the coronavirus is highly infectious,” says registered dental hygienist JoAnn Gurenlian, PhD, chair for the American Dental Hygienists Association’s (ADHA) Task Force on Return to Work.

So, when should you schedule your dentist appointment? These tips will help you decide when

Brookfield Dentist Settles $82,500 Lawsuit With CT

BROOKFIELD, CT — A Brookfield dentist has settled an $82,500 civil False Claims Act lawsuit with the state.

Dr. Rawa Hassan was accused in the suit of overcharging for dental restoration fillings the state alleges she did not provide.

The Office of the Attorney General began its investigation after receiving a fraud referral from the Department of Social Services’ Office of Quality Assurance. State investigators developed substantial evidence that between July 2010 and May 2017 Hassan repeatedly overcharged the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program for dental work she did not perform, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office.

Specifically, the suit claims Hassan submitted bills to the State Medicaid Program for multi-surface fillings that she either did not perform or the actual work performed was more limited and less expensive than that identified on the claim.

In numerous cases, the amount of work performed during the length of

Surgery, Advantages, Risks, and Insurance Questions

Despite improvements in dental care, millions of Americans suffer tooth loss — mostly due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, or injury. For many years, the only treatment options available for people with missing teeth were bridges and dentures. But, today, dental implants are available.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

There are many advantages to dental implants, including:

  • Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent.

  • Improved speech. With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without

A crown is placed in two appointments with your Idaho Falls dentist, one to measure for the crown and the second to place the permanent crown.
